Job Title: Inside Sales Representative | $24-$28/hr | On-site Mon-Fri | 6 Month Contract-To-Hire

The Inside Sales Representative supports an analytical, data-driven sales organization by managing customer accounts, providing exceptional service, and ensuring smooth order fulfillment. This role partners closely with the sales team to retain and grow accounts through proactive account management, accurate data handling, and effective use of tools such as Excel, ERP systems, and customer portals. The position requires strong attention to detail, a passion for problem-solving, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve customer issues and improve processes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the sales team to support account retention through seamless customer support, resource coordination, and order fulfillment troubleshooting.
  • Perform accurate data entry, quote support, record management, and research activities using defined processes and systems.
  • Coordinate logistics activities, including communication with the warehouse and shipment scheduling, to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.
  • Effectively manage all customer master data, including shipping conditions, contract pricing, customer contact information, CRM data, prior day invoicing, and order entry.
  • Proactively drive account management activities that support the sales process and move opportunities forward.
  • Collaborate professionally with cross-functional teams to identify, investigate, and resolve customer issues in a timely manner.
  • Support and improve customer Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs by adding, changing, and deleting items and driving efficiency to enhance service and profitability.
  • Follow company guidelines to establish selling prices and profit margins, and actively research and address profitability concerns.
  • Assist in preparing continuous improvement reviews and presentations for customers.
  • Use established reporting tools to review inventory levels and support new item additions.
  • Manage customer portals for demand, quote requests, and corrective actions, ensuring information is accurate and up to date.
  • Analyze and interpret GAP reports and other data in Excel to support decision-making, reporting, and account strategy.
  • Provide responsive, customer-focused service to internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a high standard of professionalism at all times.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5 years of customer service, inside sales, or closely related experience.
  • Proven experience in customer service and account management in a business-to-business environment.
  • Strong inside sales or sales support background with a focus on data and process accuracy.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including frequent use for analyzing data, running reports, and working with GAP reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, for daily tasks and reporting.
  • Experience with ERP systems; SAP experience is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer data, including pricing, shipping details, and CRM information.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with a customer service–oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and collaborate to resolve customer issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Industry experience in manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Fastener industry knowledge is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with vendor management and vendor management systems.
  • Background in sales support, including quote support and order management.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a high level of comfort working in a highly analytical team environment.
  • Ability to understand and work with profitability metrics, selling prices, and margin guidelines.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite position with a primary preference for the Roanoke location, with the option to be based in Richmond. The standard schedule is approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to start earlier, such as 7:30 a.m., and includes a one-hour lunch break. The team operates in a collaborative environment where members are spread across different locations but remain closely connected, including working alongside multiple business unit managers on each team. The culture emphasizes a close-knit, highly engaged atmosphere that feels like a family-oriented, privately held organization, even though the company is large. Employee engagement is a priority, with regular activities and events that foster connection and team spirit. Daily work involves extensive use of Microsoft Excel, ERP systems (such as SAP), customer portals, and other Microsoft Office tools in a professional office setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roanoke, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
