Indirect Tax Consultant

Robert Half is recruiting for a strong Indirect Tax Consultant to support our large private equity held Retail and Wholesale client beginning immediately. The Indirect Tax Consultant will primarily be responsible for preparing Sales and Use Tax returns for Western States on a monthly and quarterly basis directly into the States Websites on a manual basis until the transition to a more robust Sales and Use Tax system is completed. In addition, the tax consultant will assist with preparing fixed assets amortization schedules (real property and personal property) in preparation for property tax returns for over 500 locations spanning most Western States. This will include property tax journal entries (liability, expense, prepaid accounts) for each location, and preparing detailed amortization schedules. This consultant must also have basic accounting knowledge including balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries. This role will be located in Long Beach, CA.

Skills:

• Experience in a high volume transaction company
• Experience with multi-state Sales Tax AND property tax preferred
• Large company tax experience required
• Excellent Excel skills are essential to this role
• Knowledge of large ERP
• Knowledge of Avalara or Vertex

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in indirect tax management, preferably in a large, multi-state organization.
• Proficiency in preparing sales and use tax returns and property tax filings.
• Strong knowledge of multi-state tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Expertise in managing high-volume transaction environments.
• Advanced skills in Excel, including data analysis and reporting.
• Familiarity with tax software such as Avalara or Vertex is highly preferred.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles, including balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
• Experience working in industries related to oil and gas or retail/wholesale is an advantage.
