Outside Sales Representative

A long-established building-materials supplier in the Houston market is seeking an experienced Outside Sales Representative to manage and grow a defined territory. The ideal candidate has a background in lumber, structural products, or construction supply sales and thrives in a relationship-driven, performance-based environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a defined territory calling on builders, contractors, and developers.
  • Present and sell a broad range of building-material products including lumber, engineered wood, siding, trim, and structural panels, along with value-added services such as quoting, delivery, and special orders.
  • Generate new business, maintain strong customer relationships, and conduct onsite meetings.
  • Review plans and specifications to prepare accurate estimates and material recommendations.
  • Negotiate pricing and terms to achieve revenue and margin goals.
  • Monitor market trends and provide feedback on customer and competitive activity.
  • Maintain CRM updates, sales forecasts, and pipeline activity.
  • Collaborate with inside sales, delivery, and operations teams to ensure service excellence.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of outside sales experience in building materials, construction supplies, or a related industry.
  • Working knowledge of lumber, engineered products, siding, or structural materials.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to manage accounts independently and grow territory revenue.
  • Comfortable interpreting building plans and coordinating take-offs or estimates.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the drive to succeed in a performance-based environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally.
