Sales Position
Knife River Mountain Division has an opening for a Sales position for our Missoula, MT area. This position will establish good relationships with current customers, contact potential customers, and create lasting customer relationships in order to obtain maximum volumes and profitability from ready mix concrete, aggregate and asphalt sales.
Duties and/or responsibilities include:
- Making direct calls on customers. Assisting customers regarding service, pricing, order taking, merchandising and product training as needed.
- Marketing products and services to new accounts such as contractors, sub-contractors, developers, government agencies and supply houses to solicit new business.
- Handling inside and outside sales of ready-mix concrete, aggregate and asphalt products. Following through on potential sales leads including obtaining necessary information such as job specifications and project take offs.
- Ability to learn new software programs and implement on a daily basis for quoting and reporting purposes.
- Ability to read and review project plans and specifications to identify necessary technical information and effectively communicate with Quality Control department to select the appropriate concrete or asphalt mix design and/or aggregate materials for the bid.
- Develop product knowledge through value added sales, trade shows, customer questions, and product quality resolution. Ability to identify best product for customer needs and advise.
- Prepare quotes/bids for projects using appropriate worksheets and software programs that provide company unit prices. Discuss costs and schedule with operating divisions as well as providing project opportunities and challenges and other project information advice to appropriate internal staff.
- Follow through on customer satisfaction on jobs awarded. Monitor product quality during delivery and installation.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors and managers, and field personnel.
- May need to deliver material samples to project owner engineer when required.
- Facilitate pre-construction, construction and post-construction meetings with appropriate internal staff as demanded by the complexity of projects awarded.
- Immediately report concerns regarding billing, credit, delivery and quality of product to appropriate internal departments and coordinate meetings with other departments as needed to address customer concerns.
- Attends seminars to develop product knowledge.
- Reads trade journals, newspapers and other publications to be informed of new developments in the construction industry, government or the community.
- Assists billing clerk to retrieve payments from customers as necessary to prevent COD status or late charges.
- Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
- Available for overnight travel on an as needed basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:
- High School or GED equivalent.
- Construction Materials (ready mix concrete, aggregate and asphalt) experience preferred.
- Technical sales experience preferred.
- Intermediate computer skills required.
- Good customer service skills.
- Good communication skills including verbal and written.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities with short deadlines.
