Job Purpose
The Sales Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sales and use tax compliance, including accurate filings, timely payments, and strict adherence to applicable laws and regulations. This role leads and develops a team while designing and implementing effective tax strategies across local, state, federal, and international jurisdictions. The Sales Tax Manager ensures compliance, mitigates risk, and supports the company's financial objectives by driving efficiency and accuracy in indirect tax processes.
Responsibilities
- Tax Compliance & Reporting – Oversee all aspects of sales and use tax compliance, including accurate and timely filings, account reconciliations, audits, and financial statement disclosures across multiple jurisdictions.
- Strategy & Risk Management – Develop and implement tax strategies that minimize liabilities while ensuring compliance with domestic, international, and indirect tax laws.
- Technology & Process Improvement – Lead automation initiatives and system integrations (e.g., Avalara, ERP platforms) to streamline tax processes, enhance efficiency, and support ongoing tax technology advancements.
- Research & Advisory – Monitor and analyze changes in tax regulations, assess their impact on the business, and provide expert guidance and documentation to internal teams and external advisors.
- Leadership & Collaboration – Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals while partnering with cross-functional departments to ensure alignment and effective communication on tax-related matters.
Requirements
- Education & Experience – Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration with 7–9 years of related experience; MBA preferred.
- Technical Expertise – Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and local sales tax laws with proven experience in tax research, analysis, and compliance.
- Tax Technology Skills – Hands-on experience with leading tax automation platforms (e.g., Avalara) and familiarity with ERP systems.
- Professional Certification – Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Ability – Demonstrated ability to interpret complex tax regulations, identify risks, and implement effective solutions.
