Founding Business Development Representative

The Founding Business Development Representative will act as a strategic, analytical, and highly autonomous sales operator responsible for designing, testing, and validating the company's outbound engine from scratch.

This role goes beyond booking calls; it's about building the outbound motion itself, experimenting with channels, refining messaging, and creating scalable processes that deliver consistent results.

Key responsibilities:

  • Architect the entire outbound engine from zero, mapping out target segments, sequencing strategies, messaging flows, and outreach channels.
  • Determine whether to focus on cold calling, multi-channel outreach (calls, LinkedIn, email), or other experimental methods.
  • Collaborate directly with the CEO to align on goals, ICPs, and outbound hypotheses — then bring them to life.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the funnel (e.g., contact rate, response time, conversion rates) and implement solutions to improve ROI.

Testing & optimization:

  • Define and track key performance metrics such as response rate, connect rate, show rate, and booking ratio.
  • Test multiple variables (timing, message type, personalization, dialing methods) to discover what converts best.
  • Build a repeatable, scalable playbook for future BDRs once the model is validated.

Execution & tools:

  • Execute outreach using dialers and enrichment tools such as Apollo, Clay, ZoomInfo, or Lusha.
  • Implement and manage automation tools (e.g., HubSpot Sequences, Lemlist, Reply.io) for cold email and follow-up campaigns.

Collaboration & leadership:

  • Work directly with the CEO to gather insights, iterate on strategies, and present data-driven performance reports.
  • Take full ownership of the outbound function's success — from system setup to strategy validation.

Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years of B2B outbound experience (SDR/BDR or Growth Sales roles), with a track record of building or optimizing cold call systems.

Skills:

  • Deep familiarity with sales tech stacks such as HubSpot, Apollo, Clay, ZoomInfo, and Lemlist.
  • Strong analytical mindset, skilled at diagnosing conversion issues and testing solutions.
  • Confident cold caller and persuasive communicator with exceptional objection-handling ability.
  • Data-driven and performance-oriented, comfortable speaking in metrics and designing experiments.
  • Highly autonomous and proactive, capable of operating independently and creating playbooks from scratch.

What success looks like:

  • A fully built and validated outbound system that's scalable and repeatable.
  • Steady month-over-month improvement in KPIs such as connect, response, show, and conversion rates.
  • Clear identification of high-performing channels and sequences driving booked qualified calls.
  • Data-rich, visual, and actionable outbound performance reports that guide scaling decisions.
