Physician Account Executive

The Physician Account Executive (PAE) is a consultative sales leader responsible for expanding business across a diverse portfolio of diagnostic solutions. This role combines strong business acumen, life-sciences/clinical diagnostics expertise, and the ability to build and scale customer relationships across complex healthcare ecosystems.
This is a field-based position. The territory will encompass Sacramento County and Yolo County, California. All applicants must live within this territory.
At target, the compensation is $140,000-155,000. This includes a base salary and sales incentive. There is the potential to earn higher, as the sales incentive is uncapped at Quest Diagnostics. Base salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Responsibilities
You will own key accounts within the territory, develop and execute territory growth strategies, identify and secure new business, and serve as a trusted partner to physicians, administrators, and clinical staff. A foundational understanding of genetics, genomics, and laboratory workflows is essential to effectively communicate the value of advanced diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute robust territory and account-growth plans using strong commercial and analytical skills.
- Build, sustain, and expand high-value customer relationships across physician offices, health systems, and specialty practices.
- Identify, target, and secure new business opportunities; consistently drive growth with a hunter mindset.
- Partner with physicians to integrate diagnostic solutions, including genetic/genomic testing, connectivity tools, and specialized lab services.
- Support onboarding and operational adoption for new and existing accounts; troubleshoot non-complex issues directly and escalate as needed.
- Present compelling business cases, proposals, and bids that communicate clinical and economic value. Leverage sales tools, customer insights, market data, and internal resources to execute territory strategy.
- Ensure account compliance with all regulatory, policy, and contracting guidelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of diagnostic innovations, payer/insurance dynamics, and laboratory industry trends.
- Complete administrative, CRM, and reporting tasks accurately and on time.
Qualifications
- 0-5+ years of sales, account ownership, or commercial experience, preferably in life sciences, clinical diagnostics, laboratory services, or healthcare technology.
- Demonstrated hunter mentality with a proven track record of growing revenue, capturing new business, and scaling customer adoption.
- Strong business acumen, including experience analyzing territory performance, forecasting, and identifying growth levers.
- Ability to communicate the basics of genetics/genomics, molecular diagnostics, and test utility in patient care.
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and presentation skills.
- Robust organizational, planning, and follow-through capabilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms.
- Bachelor of science is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of Healthcare Industry and general economics of business.
- Ability to develop and sustain strong customer relationships; strong planning and organizational skills
- Laboratory/Diagnostics sales experience preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
- Solid PC skills including Microsoft Software.
