Export Sales Representative

This job is for the position of Export Sales Representative, as a member of the Export Inside Sales Department team. The individual duties are to participate in supporting, promoting, and maintaining sales by originating and developing leads over phone, email, and other communications. Daily duties include quoting materials, coordinating with freight forwarders, and providing customer service as the customer service point of contact. Aspect of this position requires marketing sense, analysis, communication of industry terms, demand trends, prices, marketing trends, and other facts relating to the marketing for sales of Reliance’s materials and services offered. This is a full-time position with work hours, 8 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. At times, this job may require work to be conducted outside of normal business hours, particularly during the company’s annual inventory and audit periods. Overtime may be required during times of heavy operational demands or team personnel shortfalls. Position offers additional incentives.

Function in the Job

Sedentary Work- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Job Function

  • Serve as the primary contact for international customers, maintain customer relationships and address all issues with assigned customer base.
  • Manage assigned international customer accounts and build customer relationships to continue to grow business opportunities with the customer.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance, development, and growth of new and established international customer accounts by means of face to face, and virtual communication when necessary.
  • Understand and up-follow export procedures to ensure we meet Export Compliance regulations.
  • Acquire a working knowledge and regularly update export sales regulations.
  • Attendance at offsite locations and/or online Export Training bi-annual sessions.
  • Generate new business and drive repeat business by ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Analyzes historical trends of material usage to better understand customer needs and identify opportunities to improve service.
  • Offer customers additional value-added services such to ensure their goals are better met.
  • Assist with inventory management and develop inventory levels based on current market forecasts.
  • Answer customers' questions accurately regarding products, prices, and availability.
  • Develop/maintain effective relationships with customers, providing customer service and complaint resolution.
  • Regular inquires and monitor customer satisfaction regarding quality of products, services, and deliveries.
  • Enter formal quotations into appropriate computer system or format and provide them to customers in a way reflecting urgency, care, and accuracy.
  • Follows up with all quotes in a timely manner and according to policy.
  • Negotiate certain pricing and/or agreements, follow established guidelines and/or managerial approvals.
  • Facilitate customer contract agreements ensuring all terms are met accordingly.
  • Maintain working knowledge of polices and company adaptive procedures.
  • Responsible for adhering to safety processes and protocols.
  • All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management as required.

Required Skills

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High School diploma/GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in sales, customer service, or another related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of international requirements pertinent to the metals industry within assigned country/market such as tariffs, transportation, compliance, preferred.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control.
  • Understanding of company product(s) and their uses, preferred.
  • Knowledge of the metals industry required.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively under deadline pressures, required.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly a strong virtual presence and listening skills, required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, multiplication, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, required.
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including analysis, knowledge, experience, and judgment, required.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and customers, required.
  • Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word and Excel, required.
  • Attention to details, required.

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $50,000.00/Yr. - USD $55,000.00/Yr. depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
