Job Summary:
As a part of the underwriting organization, the Sales Support Specialist will serve as one of the first points of contact for sales staff and brokers when a Request for Proposal (RFP) is received. Working closely with the underwriting organization and distribution partners, the sales support specialist will leverage industry and local market knowledge to evaluate plan designs and product packages to develop accurate manual rates and apply discounting factors based on market and sales opportunities. Timely management of the processing and distribution of proposals and inquiry responses with our brokers, sales staff, and underwriters ensures long-term profitability and growth within the organization.
Job Description:
- Discuss and make recommendations throughout the RFP process, such as plan design options, rate options, and multi-line options with sales staff and underwriters.
- Independently, or in collaboration with sales professionals, meet with underwriting staff to negotiate rates, term, and conditions.
- Build strong relationships with sales representatives, underwriters, brokers, and their staff to ensure that customer needs are met while maintaining profitability and adherence to risk guidelines.
- Generate proposals by applying Renaissance and competitor information to rate, re-rate, quote, and re-quote competitive proposals, based upon specifications in the RFP, internal guidelines, and/or discussions/negotiations with sales and underwriting staff.
- Participate in ad-hoc project work focused on continuous improvement, specific to rating quality and efficiency.
- Other tasks as assigned by Manager.
Minimum Requirements:
- Position requires a combination of an associate's degree in business or similar field, 1 to 3 years Group Insurance experience, preferably in an underwriting or sales support function in a fast-paced operational area such as claims or a call center. Will accent any suitable combination of education, training or experience.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, excellent customer service soft skills.
- Planning and organization skills; ability to multi-task while working independently.
- Able to handle challenging priorities, while maintaining excellent time management skills.
- Strong consultative, negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills with a sales orientation, and ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships at all levels. Intermediate math/analytical skills, and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.
