The Regional Placement Specialist – Real Estate is responsible for independently managing the marketing and placement of new and renewal account opportunities (Small and Middle Market) with partner insurance carriers, specifically for clients in the real estate sector. This includes portfolios of habitational, commercial office, retail, industrial, and mixed-use properties. The role requires a deep understanding of real estate asset classes, ownership structures (e.g., REITs, LLCs, TICs), and the unique risk exposures associated with property management, development, and investment. The Regional Placement Specialist serves as a strategic resource to producers, guiding placement strategy and negotiating carrier coverages and terms that address real estate-specific concerns such as ordinance or law, equipment breakdown, builder's risk, CAT exposures, and environmental liability. In alignment with the "Fewer and Stronger" market consolidation initiative, the Regional Placement Specialist is responsible for identifying optimal carrier partners, leveraging market relationships, and securing competitive terms and conditions. This includes preparing comprehensive proposals, facilitating the binding process, and ensuring compliance with lender requirements and client expectations. The role also involves staying current on market trends, valuation shifts, and regulatory changes that impact real estate insurance placement.
Your Impact: Establish and maintain strong working relationships with Account Managers and Producers to understand the client's real estate portfolio, including asset classes (e.g., habitational, office, retail, industrial), ownership structures (REITs, LLCs, TICs), and property management operations. Gather key underwriting information to enter the market and deliver a competitive proposal tailored to real estate exposures. Collaborate closely with the Regional Brokerage Leader and National Placement Team to align with the "Fewer and Stronger" strategy, ensuring carrier selection and placement decisions reflect the firm's strategic market consolidation goals and deliver optimal outcomes for real estate clients. Negotiate and present real estate-specific business opportunities to carrier partners, securing market-leading terms and conditions for risks such as property schedules, CAT exposures, ordinance or law, builder's risk, environmental liability, and equipment breakdown. Deliver comprehensive marketing proposals that include terms, rates, commission structures, bind order documentation, and carrier responses. Clearly document reasons for declinations and ensure proposals address lender insurance requirements and client-specific coverage needs. Develop and maintain strong carrier relationships to ensure Risk Strategies is positioned to deliver best-in-class service and coverage solutions for real estate clients, especially in competitive or distressed markets. Serve as an Intellectual Capital leader in the real estate segment, maintaining deep knowledge of carrier appetites, market trends, pricing dynamics, underwriting guidelines, and key contacts relevant to property portfolios and real estate investment strategies. Participate in carrier meetings and strategy sessions, both independently and alongside Regional Brokerage Leader and National Placement leadership, to advocate for real estate clients and stay informed on market developments affecting property risks. Disseminate market intelligence gathered from carrier interactions and industry sources to internal stakeholders in Operations, Marketing, and Placement, ensuring alignment and responsiveness to real estate market shifts. Collaborate with National Real Estate Practice Leader and National Product Practice Leaders, to ensure real estate clients are benefiting from national strategies and thought leadership.
Successful Candidates Will Have: 7+ years of insurance industry experience, preferably in placement, underwriting, or carrier relationship management Strong understanding of carrier and wholesaler dynamics in the Middle Market Deep technical knowledge of Property & Casualty business, including loss sensitive, alternative risk transfer, self-insured retentions, and captive programs Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills College degree and insurance designations (CIC, ARM, AAI, CPCU) preferred, but not required Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal instruction, strong business acumen, and a high degree of frequency Ability to creatively and proactively problem solve and negotiate Sets priorities and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate work Knowledge of agency management system, workflow procedures, underwriting, sales and service processes Proficient in PowerPoint, Word and Excel Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills Maintain/Obtain a state Property & Casualty insurance license or willing to obtain one within an agreed upon timeframe
