Sales Manager, Kansai Region Japan

This position requires native Japanese language ability.

The Regional Sales Manager (RSM) is responsible for accurately assessing market dynamics and customer needs within the assigned region, and for developing, executing, and managing regional sales plans and MR activity plans (GROWS plans) aligned with the national sales strategy.

As a playing manager, the RSM will directly manage key accounts while leading, coaching, and developing MRs to elevate team performance and contribute to achieving both regional and national sales targets.

This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning capability, and hands-on execution in a highly specialized therapeutic area.

Essential Functions

Achieve Regional Sales Targets (50%)

Analyze customer needs and market trends to develop, execute, review, and refine regional block action plans.

Communicate regional sales plans to MRs and guide them in creating individual activity plans and allocating promotional resources.

Conduct weekly and monthly performance reviews, identify issues, and provide timely feedback to adjust plans.

Act as a player by managing key accounts and achieving personal sales targets.

Collaborate with partner companies and internal departments to validate sales data and drive commercial initiatives.

Talent Development & Coaching (30%)

Identify MR capability development needs and design coaching, field visits, skills training, and feedback programs.

Support MRs in achieving individual performance goals and foster continuous growth.

Opinion Leader Management (10%)

Gather and share high-quality insights on customer needs and medical environment trends in the iNO therapeutic area.

Strengthen relationships with key opinion leaders and support company-sponsored and co-sponsored events.

Compliance & High-Quality Operations (10%)

Ensure strict adherence to company policies, industry codes, and relevant regulations.

Maintain strong collaboration with other regional managers and internal departments.

Manage and report on sales plans, call plans, and operational documentation.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge

Strong understanding of company products, relevant scientific knowledge, and industry regulations.

Knowledge of Fair Competition Code, Labor Standards Act, and internal SOPs.

Skills

Leadership and coaching capability.

Strategic planning and problem-solving (GROWS planning).

Strong communication and KOL engagement skills.

Experience

10+ years as an MR or equivalent role.

Proven track record of success in major hospitals.

Experience leading cross-functional initiatives.

Competency

Logical thinking and adaptability.

Relationship-building and willingness to take on challenges.

Education / Certifications

Bachelor's degree or higher.

10+ years of MR or equivalent experience.

Industry-related certifications preferred.

Organizational Relationship/Scope:

This position reports directly to the National Sales Director.

The role requires close collaboration with MRs, partner companies, and internal departments including Marketing, Medical, and Commercial Operations.

The RSM is responsible for both individual sales performance and team leadership as a playing manager.

Working Conditions:

Field-based role with frequent travel within the region.

Regular visits to major hospitals and key accounts.

Occasional travel to Tokyo headquarters and national meetings.

Standard office work as needed.
