We are looking for a detail-oriented Sales & Use Tax Accountant to join our team on a contract basis. In this role, you will manage various tax compliance tasks, including preparing and filing tax returns while ensuring adherence to regulations. This position is based in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, and offers an opportunity to apply your expertise in sales and use tax accounting.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and file sales and use tax returns in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Review and analyze tax data to ensure accuracy and completeness of filings.
Conduct research on tax laws and maintain up-to-date knowledge of any changes in regulations.
Assist with the preparation of individual and corporate tax returns.
Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary financial information for tax reporting.
Address inquiries from tax authorities and resolve discrepancies efficiently.
Develop and maintain organized records of tax filings and related documentation.
Provide support during audits by preparing required documentation and addressing auditor questions.
Identify opportunities for tax process improvements and implement best practices.
Requirements:
Proven experience in preparing sales and use tax returns.
Strong knowledge of tax preparation for both individual and corporate returns.
Familiarity with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Proficiency in tax research and the ability to interpret complex tax laws.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and address external inquiries.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
