As the Vice President of Business Development - Sales, you will play a pivotal leadership role in driving our growth by expanding our presence in the public sector, with a strong emphasis on transportation-focused initiatives. This position is ideal for a strategic sales executive with a passion for technology-driven urban solutions and established connections within the transportation sector. You will lead efforts to secure high-impact contracts with government entities, cities, municipalities, and transit agencies, focusing on our AI-enhanced infrastructure and platform offerings. Reporting directly to the executive team, you will shape sales strategies that align with our vision of transforming urban mobility, leveraging your transportation industry network to foster innovation and revenue growth in the smart cities ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive business development and sales strategies tailored to the public sector, particularly targeting transportation-focused government agencies, municipal transit authorities, and related stakeholders.
  • Lead the full sales cycle from prospecting and lead generation to negotiation, contract closure, and post-sale relationship management, ensuring alignment with client needs for smart infrastructure and data platforms in transportation systems.
  • Leverage existing connections in the transportation sector to build and nurture a robust network of key stakeholders, including elected officials, city planners, transit authorities, and government procurement teams, to uncover new opportunities in urban mobility and smart city initiatives.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging trends in AI, edge computing, and mobility-as-a-service (MaaS), adapting strategies to position our solutions as essential for cost-effective urban transportation upgrades.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to customize proposals, demos, and pilots that demonstrate the value of our sensor-equipped infrastructure and AI-powered ecosystem for transportation applications.
  • Achieve and exceed annual sales targets, tracking performance through KPIs such as pipeline development, win rates, and revenue growth from government and transportation-related contracts.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows focused on smart cities, sustainable mobility, and public sector transportation innovation to generate leads and enhance brand visibility.
  • Mentor and guide junior sales team members, fostering a high-performance culture while ensuring compliance with public sector procurement processes and ethical sales practices.
  • Monitor and report on sales forecasts, market feedback, and client satisfaction to inform strategic adjustments and continuous improvement in transportation-focused initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Proven track record of successful sales to government agencies, cities, municipalities, and transit agencies, with at least 7-10 years of experience in business development or sales leadership roles, specifically within the transportation sector.
  • Established network of connections within the transportation industry, including relationships with transit authorities, transportation departments, and related government entities in North America and/or Europe.
  • Demonstrated expertise in selling complex technology solutions, ideally in areas such as AI, IoT, edge computing, smart infrastructure, or urban mobility platforms, with a focus on transportation applications.
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement processes, including RFPs, tenders, and compliance requirements, with a history of closing multi-year, high-value contracts in transportation or related fields.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences like city officials and transit executives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Urban Planning, Transportation, or a related field; an MBA or advanced degree is preferred.
  • Proficiency in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), sales analytics, and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% for client meetings, events, and site visits, particularly to transportation-focused conferences and municipal offices.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented leader with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to ethical practices in public sector and transportation-related sales.

Compensation

The base salary for this role ranges from $140,000 to $160,000 USD, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition, the role offers a competitive commission structure of 25–35% on sales, along with equity options. This package is designed to attract top talent passionate about driving impactful change in urban innovation and transportation.
