Clinical Trial Packaging & Adherence Sales Rep

The Opportunity: The candidate will be responsible for managing sales within both the existing and targeted (prospect) customer base operating in the Biopharmaceutical and RX Pharmaceutical Ethical space, namely Contract Manufacturer Organization (CMO), Sponsor (pharma companies), Clinical Trial, and Clinical Research Organizations (CRO) focused on the supply of Smurfit Westrock proprietary Adherence & Clinical Trial packaging and service solutions.

The essence of the role is to develop and manage the prospective and existing account base with a project management mindset and solutions approach. This approach will be supported by an individual with knowledge, commitment, and drive to progress projects. The job holder would ideally have knowledge of the Pharmaceutical & Clinical Trial marketplace and operations and be familiar and comfortable with all the key stakeholders including marketing, packaging development, operations, and procurement. The candidate may have a background in primary packaging, project management, technical or engineering and understands, or experiences across a range of medical therapeutics and disease states. Being responsible for a North American geography fluency in spoken and written English is essential. It is expected the candidate will have an aptitude for Sales. Expertise around Adherence & Clinicals can be developed. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the cornerstone concepts of Solution Selling, displaying excellence in sales technique and confidence in dealing with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels in the product development and packaging decision making process.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:

  • Implement, develop, grow, and maintain sales in the Adherence & Clinicals sector to achieve strategic rates of sales growth in line with and above company budgets
  • Work with Sales and Marketing Leadership in developing strategic discussions, negotiations, and the pricing of all proposed solutions, effectively communicating plans and strategy with both the wider Adherence team and global key Account team where relevant
  • Work closely with the NA Mebane facility and team to ensure optimal working relationships and to support the client base, with the balance of profitability, revenue growth and customer service, support, and satisfaction in mind
  • Effective utilization and Sales Plan execution through the company customer relationship management (CRM) platform Salesforce
  • Set Annual budget development – with Regional Business leaders and head of sales. Provide accurate reporting and forecasts as necessary to support business planning activities
  • Pro-actively work with relevant sector Marketing team seeking out detailed market analysis (including competitor activity and market trends) and new product development concepts to support the sector longer term plans
  • Target strategic development business beyond current portfolio. Develop and negotiate with new sales relationships to strategically increase sales volume and maximize solution proposals and profitability in all regions
  • Must be able to work autonomously and independent of local management
  • Ability to work diligently and conscientiously from a home office when and where required
  • Must be able and willing to cover a large geographical area North American with frequent overnight stops and irregular hours as needs require it

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university or college, preferably in Packaging or a related technical/ Medical field OR relevant Sales/Industry experience
  • Proven history of business development success & delivery
  • Must have excellent personal computer skills, including experience with e-mail, Excel, social media, word processing and PowerPoint presentations
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to communicate verbally and in writing effectively at all levels
  • Be culturally aware. Relevant language skills desirable
  • Effective business presentation skills, one-on-one' or group settings
  • Must have strong organizational and project management skills
  • Business development experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Budget and cost management
  • Product and service knowledge within the Pharmaceutical, Medical and Clinical environment
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective customer relationships
  • Project management and critical thinking skills
  • Commercial acumen
