SVP, Segment Sales

The Opportunity: As the Senior Vice President of Segment Sales, you will be a driving force behind Smurfit Westrock's commercial success in the corrugated packaging division. This is a high-impact, executive leadership role where you will set the vision, shape strategy, and deliver results to outpace the market co-leading our segment sales team.

You will lead a team of segment VPs that will champion innovation, empower our sales teams, and build partnerships—internally and externally—to unlock new growth and margin opportunities. Your team will have direct sales responsibility for the largest multi-location accounts across the division and will be the subject matter experts in your end markets to support the local sales process.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

  • Strategic Growth Leadership: Architect and execute segment strategies that deliver profitable growth faster than the market, leveraging cross-functional teams including Pricing Excellence, Packaging Consulting, Graphics, Marketing, Design, Innovation/R&D, Technical Service, and more.
  • Team Empowerment: Inspire, mentor, and develop a high-performing sales organization. Drive accountability and excellence through clear goals, regular cadence calls, and targeted development initiatives.
  • Market Expansion: Lead the charge in identifying and capturing new business opportunities, through targeted end market segments. Ensure robust, accurate pipelines, support the negotiation of large contracts and facilitate processes for delivering value to our customers while we "Lock the Base and Grow the Pond."
  • Customer Engagement: Serve as the executive face of Smurfit Westrock in key customer meetings, contract negotiations, and industry events. Build trusted relationships with C-suite leaders, CPGs, distributors, and industry councils.
  • Innovation & Differentiation: Deliver unique, value-added solutions that increase margins and set Smurfit Westrock apart in the marketplace.
  • Enterprise Collaboration: Forge strong partnerships across Smurfit Westrock divisions to create new revenue streams and maximize enterprise capabilities.
  • Operational Excellence: Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to balance demand and supply, ensuring seamless service and operational agility.
  • Negotiation & Margin Maximization: Directly negotiate with large accounts and coach segment VPs and sales reps on smaller deals to secure business and optimize profitability.
  • Thought Leadership: Communicate market insights, segment activities, and team results to senior leadership, influencing enterprise-wide strategy.

What you need to succeed:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years in packaging, with deep expertise in sales, manufacturing operations, and design
  • 5+ years of direct sales experience in corrugated packaging markets
  • Proven track record leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex sales cycles
  • Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with C-suite executives and industry leaders
  • High energy, competitive drive, and personal accountability for delivering superior results
  • Willingness to travel nationwide (50%+)
