Log Sales Manager

Weyerhaeuser's Northern Timberlands Business is seeking a Log Sales Manager to support marketing operations in the New England Region. It is a Full Time, Exempt position and reports to the New England Region Marketing Manager. This critical role focuses on delivering superior customer service to current and future log customers. The successful candidate will maintain an office at Weyerhaeuser's Bingham, Maine or Greenville, Maine office. Consideration of the Lancaster, New Hampshire office will be given for in-place internal candidates.

Background: The successful candidate will work closely with the New England Lead Team and the Region Marketing Manager to: design and negotiate quarterly and 6-month log sales agreements; build and maintain positive relationships with customers; deliver on-time and on-spec volume as per negotiated agreements and execute strategic plans that position our dynamic harvest and transportation operations to deliver customer value. This position requires influencing others to achieve tactical goals without direct authority, particularly within the Operations Teams.

Key Functions:

  • Build a deep understanding of our customer's business by spending time with them and collaboratively discovering ways our operations can unlock value for their business.
  • Enhance organizational knowledge of our customer's needs by bringing our staff and our customers together.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations Teams to translate the 6-month production forecast into a 6-month log sales plan that optimizes value.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts to execute the 6-month log sales plan.
  • Partner with the Harvest & Transportation Managers to monitor and actively manage the execution of customer commitments.
  • Partner with the NTL leadership to develop long-term marketing plans to align future business needs with current and future customers.
  • Partner with service providers, customers, and operations to safely maximize value with the use of internal and external sort yards.
  • Build and develop collaborative relationships with internal teams and external partners to achieve results to include actively working to attract new customer capacity to our Region.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in forestry is preferred; however marketing and business-related bachelor's degrees will be considered in combination with forestry experience.
  • A minimum of five years experience in forestry with 7 or more years preferred.
  • Experience in timber procurement, harvesting, and/or marketing is preferred.
  • Contract negotiation experience and the strong desire to negotiate regularly.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that include conflict resolution, team problem solving, and relationship building.
  • The ability to confidently and clearly communicate.
  • A proven ability to accurately appraise timber value using timber cruising and market analysis.
  • A good understanding of timber harvesting and delivery.
  • Knowledge of current timber market dynamics including units of measure, product types, log specifications, prices, supply, and demand.
  • Strong computer skills and the eagerness to learn and use new technology.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.

What We Offer:

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $81,313-$146,027 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 7-10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
