Xylem is Hiring a Sales Representative-Northeast Territory
The Field Sales Representative is responsible for driving profitable growth through service account management and water treatment solution sales across the Northeast Heavy Industry market. This role manages an established customer base while identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities within key industrial segments including power plants, HPI/CPI, pulp and paper, mining, food manufacturing, and primary metals.
The successful candidate will develop and execute territory sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue goals, strengthen customer relationships, and expand market share. This position requires a strong blend of technical sales capability, account management discipline, and market development expertise. The Field Sales Representative must be comfortable working independently in the field, engaging key decision-makers, and partnering cross-functionally to deliver customer-focused solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Sales and Business Development
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with prospective and existing customers throughout the Northeast Heavy Industry territory.
- Actively identify and pursue new sales opportunities to grow the business and expand market penetration across assigned vertical markets.
- Manage the full sales process, including prospecting, qualification, solution presentation, proposal development, negotiation, and closing.
- Consistently meet or exceed assigned sales targets and other key performance objectives.
- Drive both short-term revenue opportunities and long-term strategic account growth by understanding customer operations, treatment needs, and business priorities.
Account Management and Customer Relationships
- Provide service account management support to existing customers, ensuring a high level of responsiveness, customer satisfaction, and retention.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with plant leadership, procurement, operations, maintenance, engineering, and other key decision-makers.
- Conduct regular customer visits, business reviews, and follow-ups to strengthen partnerships and uncover incremental opportunities.
- Address customer concerns in a timely and professional manner while coordinating internal resources as needed to support issue resolution.
Market Development and Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor market activity, customer trends, and competitive developments across the Northeast Heavy Industry landscape.
- Gather and analyze market intelligence to identify new leads, emerging needs, and potential risks to the business.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, regulatory considerations, and competitor offerings, and communicate relevant insights to sales leadership and internal stakeholders.
- Use territory knowledge to refine account strategies and prioritize high-value opportunities.
Technical and Product Expertise
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the company's water treatment products, service offerings, and value proposition for heavy industrial customers.
- Clearly communicate product features, benefits, and application value to both prospective and existing customers.
- Support customer education on solution use, best practices, and product updates.
- Translate technical capabilities into compelling business outcomes such as operational reliability, compliance, efficiency, and cost control.
Territory Management
- Develop and execute a strategic territory plan that aligns customer priorities, prospecting focus, and revenue goals.
- Effectively manage time, travel, and sales activity across the Northeast territory to maximize coverage and opportunity conversion.
- Track sales activity, pipeline health, and account progress through CRM and other business management tools.
- Prepare accurate forecasts, sales reports, and updates for leadership.
- Collaborate with other sales and service team members to optimize territory coverage and share market intelligence.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent combination of education and relevant water treatment industry experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of successful performance in a role combining existing customer base management and technical sales, preferably within water treatment or a related industrial market.
- Experience supporting or selling into heavy industry segments such as power, HPI/CPI, pulp and paper, mining, food manufacturing, or primary metals is strongly preferred.
- Strong proficiency with CRM systems and business management software.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage a large geographic territory, and balance account management with new business development.
- Must reside in or near the assigned Northeast Territory and be willing to travel approximately 50%.
Salary
The estimated base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.
