What You Can Expect

The Sales Team Lead reports to the Regional Sales Director (RSD) and leads a high-performing sales team within a defined territory. This frontline leader drives account growth, clinical excellence, and team effectiveness through disciplined sales execution, strategic customer engagement, and daily performance coaching. The Team Lead oversees territory account planning, target discovery, and alignment while ensuring the team consistently delivers outstanding customer service, case coverage, and sales results.

This role is responsible for the development and readiness of each team member, as well as for hiring, onboarding, and coaching individuals to perform at their highest level. The Team Lead fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement by using data-driven insights to guide team decisions, manage pipeline health, and ensure alignment with sales plans. Through active field leadership, the Sales Team Lead aids in building a scalable, agile sales organization positioned for sustainable growth.

How You'll Create Impact

Strategic Sales Execution • Builds and lead structured account plans with defined targets, aligned to territory growth priorities and segmentation strategy. • Allocates 30–50% of time to competitive selling, cross-selling, and supporting reps in displacing competition in prioritized accounts. • Assists Territory General Manager and RSD to translate commercial strategy into actionable territory and account plans with performance KPIs, segmentation tiers, and pipeline tracking via CRM dashboards. • Ensures education and sales events are integrated into account plans to support conversion and deepen surgeon engagement. • Monitors and manages sales targets and a healthy sales funnel, ensuring sales team capacity and readiness to meet sales team revenue goals. • Partners cross-functionally with the RSD on pricing, contracts, and business unit leaders to win and retain key business. Sales Team Leadership • Builds strong relationships with key surgeons while having the ability to cover Reconstructive, Extremities, CAS, Surgical, Sports Medicine and Trauma procedures with clinical proficiency and business acumen. • Coach's sales reps and clinical specialists weekly through field ride-alongs, funnel reviews, and monthly 1:1s tied to documented development and performance plans. • Drives team quota attainment and market expansion through performance management, clarity of role expectations, and efficient sales team structure. • Leads regular pipeline reviews, sales team meetings, and coaching sessions with clear action tracking and follow-through. • Recognizes and reward high-impact behaviors that contribute to growth, service and support excellence, and team cohesion. People Development • Recruits, retains, and develops top sales and clinical specialists' talent using behavior-based evaluation and onboarding practices that drives capacity management and bench strength to meet sales objectives. • Ensures each team member completes role-specific training, receives quarterly development feedback, and is tracked for growth against defined competency milestones. Readiness and Capability Building • Identifies individual and team capability gaps through skill assessments and performance data. • Ensures consistent clinical coverage and back-up plans for top accounts to minimize disruption and sustain customer satisfaction. • Provides after hour and/or evening case coverage and add on case coverage for team and/or territory. Includes weekend and on-call case coverage and add on case coverage for team and/or territory. • Collaborates with and provide sales support for team and/or territory, which includes the transportation of Zimmer Biomet instruments and implants for day, evening, add on or weekend cases. Customer & Surgeon Engagement • Develop strategic relationships with high-value surgeons and key accounts. • Cultivates surgeon champions for clinical advocacy, market expansion, and product insight generation. • Gathers customer insights (VOC) to inform account strategies, uncover new opportunities, and strengthen loyalty. • Ensures the sales team delivers a differentiated customer experience through consultative selling and responsive service.

What Makes You Stand Out

• Must be mobile and willing to travel across the assigned territory, including for field coaching and strategic account engagement. • Capable of transporting surgical kits and instruments up to 50 lbs as needed to support team case coverage and customer support. • Demonstrated strength in account planning and field execution within complex, high-stakes environments; uses data to drive local strategy and team performance. • In-depth clinical and technical knowledge of Zimmer Biomet's portfolio and the competitive orthopedic landscape, enabling value-driven selling. • Proven ability to coach, develop, and retain top-performing sales and clinical talent through field-based mentoring and structured development plans. • Strong analytical skills to interpret sales trends, identify root causes of performance gaps, and implement targeted improvement actions. • Expert communicator who influences across field teams, surgeon stakeholders, and cross-functional partners to align on strategy and execution. • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple team priorities, timelines, and follow-through commitments. • Demonstrates strong leadership presence and stakeholder management; builds trust, drives accountability, and elevates team performance. • Maintains agility in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment; shifts priorities while keeping focus on strategic outcomes.

Your Background

• Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, life sciences, or a related field required; master's degree in business or healthcare leadership preferred. • Minimum of 5 years of progressive medical device sales experience, including at least 3 years in frontline sales leadership or team development roles. • Extensive orthopedic expertise, including deep familiarity with Zimmer Biomet and competitor product portfolios across reconstructive, sports medicine, trauma, and enabling technologies.

Physical Requirements

Travel Expectations

Up to 50% travel across the region for field coaching, account visits, and leadership meetings.

Expected Compensation Range: $130,000 - $150,000
